Immerse yourself in the fascinating historic beginnings of Canada as this programme explores the first urban centres of Quebec, the inspiring villages and national parks of the St. Lawrence River and the imposing shores and deep wilderness of the east coast. The vibrant art and culture of French Canada are the driving forces of Montreal and Quebec City, expressed through their architecture, museums and collection of restaurants representing cuisine from nations around the world. The St. Lawrence Seaway dominates the view as the route travels into the heart of Acadia and its mix of French, Native and Scottish ancestry that perfectly complements the lobster-laden inlets of the Northumberland Strait and the magnificently stark wilderness of the Cape Breton Highlands. The route leads back into Quebec where the waters of the sea and river meet and formed country’s earliest trading marine super-highway – a passage that is still one of the most in North America today.
Our route through the Maritime offers the very best of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. You will begin in Halifax before traversing Nova Scotia’s picturesque fishing villages and rugged coastal landscapes at the Bay of Fundy. Travel to charming Prince Edward Island and admire the beauty of the low rolling countryside of Canada’s smallest province and cradle of Canadian confederation. Make your way to Cape Breton and enjoy breathtaking views on the Cabot Trail. Learn all about Nova Scotia’s Scottish, Native and Acadian heritage on your historic and cultural explorations of this energetic Maritime Province.
Canada’s most eastern province celebrates European and First Nations histories amidst a diverse landscape of coastlines, mountains and ancient forests. This excellent introduction to Newfoundland and Labrador begins and ends on the island in the modern gateway city of St. John’s – a city in dynamic contrast to the colonial ports and fishing villages along the northern shores. Journeying along the coastlines of Labrador display some of the most rugged and raw meetings of ocean and shore in Canada, perfectly complemented by visits to the immaculate North Shore, Grose Morne National Park and National Historic Site and the incredible experience of seeing icebergs and whales up close. This itinerary is ideal to be enjoyed either as a casual, stop-and-visit package, or as a base to incorporate signature hikes and other outdoor adventures.
Enjoy the cosmopolitan delights of Toronto, the thunder of Niagara Falls, and Ottawa, the nation's capital. Then embark on a discovery of French Canada, cradle of Canada's beginnings. From historic Quebec City, travel to the top of the Gaspé Peninsula, where Jacques Cartier claimed New France in 1534. The mighty St. Lawrence River is a companion for several days, leading you back to vibrant Montreal.
